Porcupine
This wood and leather shield is covered with long quills that bristle when the wielder is in battle.
Base: This item adds one half Superiority bonus (rounded up) to AC and Reflex saves.
Whenever an enemy misses an attack against the wielder by 5 or more, or the wielder hits with a Shield Bash, the target must succeed in a Reflex saving throw or have 1d4-1 (minimum 0) quills embedded in them. Creatures with Resist 5 Piercing or higher are immune to having quills embedded in them.
Any creature starting its turn with a quill embedded takes 1d4 + Superiority bonus piercing damage per tier from that quill.
Removing a quill requires a minor action and deals 1d4 + Superiority bonus per tier piercing damage to the target.
Superiority +2: Only creatures with Resist 10 Piercing or higher are immune to having quills embedded in them and the damage done by quills and removing them increases to 1d6 + Superiority bonus.
Once per encounter, the wielder can launch quills at a target within 6 squares as a Move Action. They make a ranged Simple Strike and on a hit, the target gets a number of quills embedded in them equal to twice Superiority bonus.
Superiority +4: Only creatures with Resist 15 Piercing or higher are immune to having quills embedded in them and the damage done by quills and removing them increases to 2d4 + Superiority bonus.
