Atlatl

An ancient design predating bows that allows the user to hurl arrows or small spears at high speeds.

An atlatl can be operated with one hand, but requires two hands to load.

 

Chakram

A serrated circle of bronze or steel designed to the thrown and ricocheted off obstacles.

 

On a miss, a chakram will return to its owner’s hand.

 

Advanced: After a missed attack, a chakram will return to the owner’s hand.

 

Crossbow, Crank (Heavy)

A mechanical device consisting of a heavy bow attached to a crank mechanism that pulls back and holds the bowstring.

 

Loading and firing a crank crossbow requires two hands.

 

Crossbow, Crank (Light)

A mechanical device consisting of a light bow attached to a crank mechanism that pulls back and holds the bowstring.

 

Loading and firing a crank crossbow requires two hands.

 

Crossbow, Double

A mechanical device consisting of two light bows stacked atop one another attached to a lever-action mechanism that pulls back and holds the bowstring.

 

Loading and firing a repeating crossbow requires two hands. Loading a single bolt into a double crossbow is a move action. Loading both bolts is a standard action.

 

Advanced: Loading a single bolt into a double crossbow is a minor action. Loading both bolts is a move action.

 

Crossbow, Hand

A miniature bow attached to a lever-action mechanism that pulls back an holds the bowstring.

 

Firing a hand crossbow requires only one hand, but loading it requires two.

 

Crossbow, Repeating Heavy

A mechanical device consisting of a bow and a magazine-fed, lever-action mechanism that automatically feeds a new bolt into the bow whenever the string is pulled back.

 

Loading and firing a heavy repeating crossbow requires two hands. Because of how it is constructed, it isn’t possible to load a single bolt into a repeating crossbow, you must load an entire fresh magazine.

Loading and firing a hunting rifle requires two hands. Loading a single bullet into the carousel is a move action. Loading all six shots is a standard action.

 

Advanced: Loading a single bullet into the carousel is a minor action. Loading all six shots is a move action.

 

Shield, Throwing

A light or heavy shield or buckler modified so as to be balanced for throwing. On a miss, a throwing shield returns to its owner’s hand.

 

A throwing shield only requires a single hand to throw.

 

Advanced: After any attack with it, a throwing shield returns to its owner’s hand.
