Arcane Amatures

 Aware that their limited pool of arcane energy is a liability, magi long ago developed a means of channeling even the most minuscule amounts of energy either from within or ambient to the environment into an offense that, while weaker than a spell, is a match for most mundane weapons.

Armatures take many forms, usually reflecting the nature of the element is was meant to channel, often custom made for the caster it belongs to. Suggestions aare made below, but in general, an armature takes one hand to wield, incorporates a minor energist crystal in its design, and its ability can be used as a Basic Strike or Simple Strike. Ranged attacks with arcane armatures replace DEX modifier with INT or CHA modifier for the attack roll.

Using an arcane armature requires proficiency. Characters who are not proficient with arcane amatures cannot use the abilities conveyed by the armature.

All listed armatures cost 200gp and weight 2lbs.



Bloom of Conflagration
This glove is made of supple leather within a framework of brass. The palm features an articulated brass flower with a center made of a flaer energies. Ruby-red ribbons of flame flicker out from it to strike one’s enemies.

Burning Vine – Basic Strike or Simple Strike – Ranged 6 (increment)

Make a ranged attack against one creature within range. On a hit, the target takes 1d8 + CHA modifier fire damage. Unattended flammable objects hit by this attack are set alight.

 

Booming Fork
This steel rod splits into two tines at the end of its two foot length with a vin energist embedded where the tines join. Concentrated bursts of sound pulse from the fork when struck.

Corrosion Fang
This armature consists of a light bracer of hardened leather from which extends a pair of short bronze blades surrounded in a haze of caustic fog. The energies rests on the back of the wearer’s hand.

Casutic Bite – Basic Strike or Simple Strike – Melee or Ranged 6 (increment)

Make a melee or ranged attack against one creature within reach or range. On a hit, the target takes 1d10 + CHA modifier acid damage. If used a a melee attack, this attack has a x3 crit multiplier.

 

Eye of Ego
This palm-sized cat’s eye appears to be set on whoever looks upon it no matter what the angle and gives the distinct feeling of being watched. Thin purple bolts lance out at enemies, causing severe head pain and jumbled emotions.

Psychic Shock – Basic Strike or Simple Strike – Ranged 6 (increment)

Make a ranged attack against one creature within reach or range. On a hit, the target takes 1d10 + CHA modifier psychic damage. This damage is treated as 5 points higher for the purposes of Concentration checks.

Grimstaff
Composed of the long bones of some unidentifiable creature fastened together with silver wire and studded with clear quartz that clouds to black when active, this staff harnesses the dark side of anima into chill beams that devastate the living and hinder the undead.

Necro Beam – Basic Strike or Simple Strike – Ranged 6 (increment)

Make a ranged attack against one creature within reach or range. On a hit, if the target is a non-Construct, non-Undead creature, it takes 2d6 + CHA modifier necrotic damage.

If the target is Undead, it takes 1d6 + CHA modifier force damage and become sickened until the start of their next turn.

If the target is a Construct, it takes 1d8 + CHA slashing and piercing damage as their inner working succumb to entropy.

 

Heart of Malady
This irregular bloodstone is vaguely shaped like an anatomically correct heart from an unspecified creature and studded with tiny opals. The core gem is actually hollow with a vitae energist suspended inside. Using this armature causes the various microbes, spores and viruses – within the target to burst into vigorous life, harming them from within.

Surge in Sickness – Basic Strike or Simple Strike – Ranged 6 (increment)

Make a ranged attack against one creature within reach or range. On a hit, if the target is a non-Construct, non-Undead creature, it takes 1d8 + CHA modifier poison damage and the target is sickened until the start of its next turn. This is a Disease effect.

If the target is Undead, it takes 1d8 + CHA modifier positive energy damage.

If the target is a Construct, it takes 1d8 + CHA slashing and piercing damage as tiny fungi and plants grow within it.

 

Hundredfold Blade
What appears to be an unusually thick short sword is actually hundreds of thin razors held together by magnetic force and manipulated through a ferif energist embedded in the hilt. These razors can reshape into any bladed weapon or leap to slash at distant foes.

Darting Edge – Basic Strike or Simple Strike – Melee or Ranged 6 (increment)
[Magic – Ferif – Weapon]

Make a melee or ranged attack against one creature within Reach 2 or range. On a hit, the target takes 1d10 + CHA modifier slashing damage. This attack has a critical range of 18-20.

Additionally, this armature can be treated as any Long Blade or Short Blade you are proficient with.

 

Lightning Rod
This two-foot rod of iron is wrapped in a coil of copper and tipped with a copper sphere embedded with a vin energist. They are often embellished with mechanical accents such a the ability to be collapsed or spinning odds and ends.

Crackle Volt – Basic Strike or Simple Strike – Ranged 6 (increment)

Make a ranged attack against one creature within range. On a hit, the target takes 1d8 + CHA modifier electrical damage and creatures adjacent to that creature take half the damage dealt. If the target is in water all creatures also in water within 2 squares take half the damage dealt.

 

Null Scepter
Often plated in gold or silver, this lead rod is tipped with a shard of snowflake obsidian. Swinging it lunches spheres of utter nothingness that partially annihilate matter on contact, causing howling vortices as they destroy the air around them.

Void Missle – Basic Strike or Simple Strike – Ranged 6 (increment)

Make a ranged attack against one creature within reach or range. On a hit, the target takes 1d6 + CHA modifier untyped damage. This damage cannot be reduced by any means.

 

Tidebearer Vessel
This akua armature comes in many different forms, from rugged but ornate waterskins, to delicate-looking glass amphora, to clay jugs. The energists powering it is concealed inside along with a measure of water-based liquid (water, seawater, beer, etc) that becomes animated to the user’s will to effect attacks.

Make a ranged attack against one creature within range. On a hit, the target takes 1d8 + CHA modifier slashing, piercing or bludgeoning damage.
